PELVIC HEALTH

IS FOR EVERY BODY

we believe that

Pelvic health is for every body.

Pelvic health is for every body.

Our Mission:
Pelvic Sanctuary is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing inclusive pelvic health education, advocacy, and resources for marginalized communities. We empower individuals, foster systemic change, and promote health equity through accessible programs and community-driven initiatives.

Our Vision:
Pelvic Sanctuary envisions a world where pelvic health is understood, respected, and accessible to everyone, regardless of their background. We believe care should be rooted in dignity, autonomy, and justice—championing "rights, not rescue."

Pelvic Floor Disorders (PFDs), including conditions such as pelvic pain, incontinence, organ prolapse, and chronic pelvic pain, can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age, or lifestyle.

"Pelvic Sanctuary has been a vital partner in delivering culturally competent workshops that educate participants of The Sidewalk Project, located on Skid Row, about recognizing and managing their pelvic health needs."
— Soma Snakeoil, Executive Director, The Sidewalk Project

A 2019 study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology highlighted that pelvic floor disorder research predominantly focuses on white, affluent women, with other racial and socioeconomic groups often underrepresented in both clinical trials and broader pelvic health care access.

36%

of physical therapy programs fail to include pelvic health education, focusing narrowly on childbirth-related conditions. This neglects the broader spectrum of pelvic health disorders and reinforces disparities in care for all genders, including transgender, nonbinary, and male individuals.

31%

of transgender individuals report pelvic pain, yet many are hesitant to seek care due to fear of discrimination.

25%

of women will experience at least one Pelvic Floor Disorder, with higher prevalence and severity in BIPOC women due to disparities in awareness, access to care, and timely treatment.
